The Yarra Valley has a particular quality in autumn.
The vines lose colour slowly — ochre, amber, rust — and the light flattens into something that makes the landscape look less photographed and more painted. The hills hold the afternoon differently at that time of year.
Yering Station is one of Victoria's oldest and most architecturally distinctive wineries, sitting in the Yarra Valley with the quiet authority of something that has been exactly where it is for a very long time. This photograph was made in April 2018, in the hour when the afternoon was almost gone and the building's reflection had settled perfectly into the water below it.
What the image holds is not wine, or tourism, or architecture as subject matter.
It is the feeling of a place that has earned its stillness.
A photograph for rooms that want warmth, depth, and a sense of being somewhere specific — somewhere with roots. It sits naturally in living rooms, home offices, and any space that benefits from the quiet authority of the Victorian countryside.
