Vibrant Hues of the Heart [Series]

from A$530.00

Uluru does not behave the way photographs expect it to.

It is not simply red. It moves through a range of colour that has no single name — rust, copper, burgundy, terracotta, a deep ochre that shifts as the light shifts. In February, with the surrounding scrub carrying its own greens and golds, the palette becomes something richer still. The rock does not sit against the landscape. It rises from it, as if the earth had decided to make one enormous, definitive statement and then go quiet.

Vibrant Hues of the Heart is a series of photographs from a single day at Uluru — 6 February 2018 — that attempts to hold that colour without reducing it. Not documentary. Not postcard. Something closer to a sustained study of what happens when ancient sandstone meets Australian summer light.

Printed on Hahnemühle German Etching paper, the textures of the work mirror its subject. The paper carries weight. It does not reflect light cleanly the way gloss does — it absorbs it, which is the right thing for an image of something this particular.

Edition of 30. A series for rooms that are ready for something with depth and presence.
